Pain after fat injections is usually mild or even non-existent. You will be puffy and possibly have signs of bruising in the areas of your face where fat has been injected. Your skin will feel tight for a week or so following the procedure.
Although from a medical standpoint, you can return to work after 2-3 days, Dr. Fechner recommends allowing 10 days to pass before re-entering the real life after fat grafting. You want to take a break from exercise for 14 days after fat injections and Dr. Fechner requests that you avoid sun exposure or wear a high level sunscreen for at least 6 weeks. Icing of the areas injected will help to speed up the resolution of swelling.
The area of fat harvest will be wrapped with an ace-type bandage which should stay in place 48 hours. After that, you can remove the wrap and no further dressings are required. Daily showers are encouraged in order to keep the skin clean and hygienic. Face dressings are only necessary when the fat injections were combined with a facelift or neck lift.
